Ducks have a very fine (if any) sinew at the leading edge of the wing and so the idea is to penetrate and attach an i/d strap by making the smallest hole possible. Like a pricing gun, you push the needle through the Tab, then place it on the bird.
Previously Padlock tags were used because of the thinness of their needle wire. Even then double tags were required for security. This tabbing system has replaced it satisfactorily. but it is attached in the loose skin at the back of the neck instead of the wing.
The large LASER or INK print is extremely clear against a light background colour. Tabs are fixed with fine textile attachments. Auto Data capture enabled with bar-codes with excellent readability because of the contrast of black print on yellow background
